PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The John J. Meany Affordable Senior Housing project in Gloucester, MA, utilized 8,000 sq.ft. of SlopeShield Plus SA by VaproShield during its re-roofing. Designed by SV Design and installed by BumbleBee Roofing, this project involved updating the existing tongue-and-groove wood deck while the facility remained operational, even during the challenging winter months of coastal New England.

The roofing assembly for this project included a wood deck, SlopeShield Plus SA as the air barrier, Poly ISO insulation, and a single-ply roof membrane. SlopeShield Plus SA was chosen for its ability to provide reliable weather protection and critical air barrier performance. By controlling air infiltration, it effectively mitigates moisture buildup within the roofing system, maintaining the roof’s integrity and enhancing long-term performance.

Roof Tech Sales, the VaproShield representative, collaborated closely with the project team to ensure the successful installation of this high-performance roof assembly. SlopeShield Plus SA’s durability, combined with its role as an air barrier, made it the ideal choice for maintaining a resilient and secure roof system.

This new construction project, formerly known as the Middle Street YMCA Housing, will provide 44 units of affordable senior housing. Located in downtown Gloucester, it seamlessly blends with the historic neighborhood while offering modern amenities designed to support aging in place.
